Profile verification explained

Understand claimed profiles, licensing checks, firm authority reviews and the limits of directory verification.

A public listing is not a verified identity

Unclaimed profiles may originate from older public professional listings. Information can be incomplete or out of date. A profile appearing in the directory does not establish that the person currently holds an active license or is accepting clients.

We do not continuously refresh every profile against every state roster. Check the available source and last-checked information, and confirm current status with the relevant official licensing authority.

Claimed means account control was approved

A claim asks to connect a listing to an account. The process collects licensing details and relevant evidence of identity or authority. Email and phone checks establish access to a contact channel; they do not, by themselves, prove individual ownership.

Claims require a reviewer decision. Automated record matching can assist the review, but does not transfer ownership. A competing claim can enter the ownership-dispute process instead of replacing the current owner automatically.

Read licensing evidence in context

A bar-verified label describes a licensing check used in our verification process. It is not a continuing guarantee of good standing, admission in every jurisdiction, specialist certification or the accuracy of every statement on the profile.

A claimed label and a licensing-verification label are separate. Use the official record for current licensing and any publicly available disciplinary information. Consider the jurisdiction in which you need help.

Firm authority is reviewed separately

An eligible bar-verified lawyer can submit a firm page and attest to their authority. The firm remains private pending independent approval. A matching email domain alone does not verify a firm.

Claimed colleagues must accept an invitation before their affiliation is added. Firm approval does not separately verify every member's current license or every service advertised by the firm.

Corrections, removal and ongoing review

Profile owners submit changes for publication review. Administrators can investigate reports and correct, suspend or remove listings where appropriate. Ownership does not prevent moderation.

Use Profile corrections and ownership help on a lawyer's page to report inaccurate information, request verified removal or start an ownership claim. We do not promise a fixed approval time.
