Editorial standards and content sources

How to read our guides and directory information, understand sources and review labels, and distinguish information from legal advice.

Different content serves different purposes

Directory pages help visitors discover professionals. Help-center articles explain the website's own workflows. Legal guides explain general topics; they are not advice about a reader's individual situation.

Our WordPress blog is a separate publishing area. A guide's review label does not extend to unrelated posts, directory listings or answers elsewhere on the site.

Useful answers need identifiable support

Our editorial standard is to explain the question in plain language, provide a practical next step and use identifiable sources for factual claims. For legal procedures, official courts, legislatures, licensing authorities and legal-aid organizations are preferred starting points.

Location-specific content should explain a meaningful local difference. Replacing a city or state name in otherwise identical copy is not a substitute for researched information. A source link is a way to check a statement, not evidence that the source endorses this website.

What a review label means

Read the reviewer attribution on the specific article. Content without a named lawyer review should not be treated as lawyer-reviewed. A named review is limited to that content and does not create an attorney-client relationship.

An updated date describes a content update; it is not a promise that every linked source was rechecked on that date. Laws and procedures can change, so consult the relevant primary source before acting.

Automation and AI do not replace evidence

The publishing system supports human-written, AI-assisted reviewed and generated content. Generated editorial content can carry a notice that it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. A writing tool cannot establish that a legal statement is correct.

Our standard is to check factual claims and citations before presenting them as reliable guidance. We do not use generated identities, invented credentials, fabricated quotations or synthetic client reviews as evidence. Automated formatting and structured data do not certify accuracy.

Read information alongside its limits

A broad guide cannot account for every jurisdiction, deadline or fact pattern. Confirm important details directly with official resources and an appropriately qualified professional.

For an error in a lawyer listing, use that profile's report option and identify the information at issue. A profile report concerns the listing; it is not an attorney-client communication.
