They did anyway $900. Bank initially sided with TaxRise. Reversed only after advocacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>July 2025 BBB complaint:<\/strong><\/em> <strong>&#8220;Agreed to $500 investigation fee, they months later authorized multiple payments up to $3000 with no email or phone contact&#8230; couldn&#8217;t even pay my bills this month because of Taxrise fraudulent charges.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>If accurate?<\/strong><\/em> That&#8217;s potentially criminal. Accredited. Torch Award for Ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Business Consumer Alliance: F rating. Only 23% complaint resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>How? BBB rates on:<\/strong><\/em> time in business, response rate, professional memberships, advertising practices, paying accreditation fees. NOT whether customers get value or favorable outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TaxRise responds to complaints with <strong>&#8220;we followed contract terms&#8221;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;fees are non-refundable per agreement.&#8221;<\/strong> Technically responsive. Substantively useless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BCA rates on outcomes. <em><strong>Do customers get satisfactory resolution?<\/strong><\/em> <em><strong>77% of time:<\/strong><\/em> no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Nobody&#8217;s Stopping Them: The Regulatory Black Hole<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FTC&#8217;s 2010 Debt Relief Rule Doesn&#8217;t Apply<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/system\/files\/attachments\/press-releases\/ftc-issues-enforcement-policy-statement-new-debt-relief-rule\/102710tsrdebtrelief.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FTC amended Telemarketing Sales Rule<\/a> in 2010 banning advance fees for debt relief services. Nothing. Yet predecessors got destroyed by state AGs Texas AG&#8217;s $195M judgment against TaxMasters, 18 states sued JK Harris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Why not TaxRise?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Theory 1<\/strong>:<\/em> Mandatory arbitration blocks visibility. No public court records. No media. AGs don&#8217;t see the pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Theory 2<\/strong>: <\/em>Complaints dispersed across 50 states. 200 complaints \u00f7 50 states = 4 per state annually.
